Mexico City, Mexico, September 22, 2022 – Manchester City’s global charity initiative, Cityzens Giving, and Official Water Technology Partner, Xylem, are delighted to announce the enlargement of Xylem Water Heroes Academy, a worldwide initiative in ten cities using the facility of football to tackle local water challenges.
Since its launch in 2021, Xylem Water Heroes Academy has engaged over seventy five younger leaders and delivered very important water schooling to more than 6,000 younger people in 5 cities: São Paulo, Mumbai, Cape Town, New York City and Shanghai. The expanded community, which now also comprises youth-led initiatives in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Cape Coast, Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne, goals to positively impact 20,000 more young individuals over the next four years.

<p>To mark the launch, Pablo Zabaleta and the Premier League Trophy visited the El Coyolito neighbourhood in Mexico City to fulfill Cityzens Giving Young Leaders who are utilizing the power of football to resolve native water issues.<br />Despite heavy flooding and rainfall, Mexico City is going through a water scarcity.  <a href=pressure gauge than 20 million residents wouldn’t have sufficient water to drink for nearly half the yearand one in five people have entry to only some hours of working water from their faucets every week.
This challenge will see Young Leaders from love.fútbol use specifically tailored soccer video games to teach younger people in the community on accountable water consumption, in addition to the importance of secure water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
Zabaleta took part in a youth-led soccer and water competition and engaged in a Q&A session with young members, before studying a traditional Mexican dance.
Reflecting on his visit, Zabaleta mentioned: “Meeting the Young Leaders in Mexico City was an amazing experience. The method they are utilizing football to teach children in regards to the importance of water is creative and galvanizing, and it’s great to see this unique initiative from Cityzens Giving and Xylem increasing to extra cities. The Young Leaders are so engaged with supporting their group and to find a way to contribute in a small way was a privilege.”

As a part of the exercise within the country, Young Leaders, Xylem employees and fans from Manchester City’s Official Supporters Club in Mexico City additionally joined forces to repaint the El Coyolito pitch and create a water-themed mural.
In addition, City within the Community coaches delivered training to forty Young Leaders in Mexico City, sharing experience and information in leadership, community soccer and WASH. This was followed by a three-day digital Summit, connecting Young Leaders and Xylem consultants from all ten cities to share ideas on tackling water challenges via football.
“Climate change continues to threaten water availability in communities across the globe,” mentioned Austin Alexander, Vice President, Sustainability and Social Impact at Xylem. “Xylem Water Heroes Academy harnesses the power of football and younger leaders to handle these water challenges and make our communities more resilient.”

Valeria, a Young Leader with love.fútbol mentioned: “We need all the youngsters here to remember that accountable water consumption is essential, and so they should care for it. We acquired training from Man City coaches and learnt a quantity of video games that train kids about water conservation via football. We are really pleased and grateful that Man City and Pablo Zabaleta visited our neighborhood.”

Later this season, City fans may have an opportunity to be taught more concerning the 5 new Water Heroes Academy initiatives and vote for their favourite younger water heroes.
